15th of July, 2009 is another important day in the short history of the Gyomaendrőd cycling sport. Last year the Tour de Hongrie race and this year the Criterium Gala of the Central European Tour 2009 was organized in Gyomaendrőd. This opening criterium does not count into the overall race of the Central European Tour. After finishing the warmup race the 3 day tour is ensuing with 4 stages – the one and only national cycling event crossing the border. The tour includes 51 settlements from which 33 are Hungarian and 18 are Slovakian.
At the Central European Tour 103 riders of 18 teams from 8 nations participate, from which the best at sprint events were invited to the Gyomaendrőd Grand Prix. Therefore the elite could compete in the streets of Gyomaendrőd. Besides the Dutch, Austrian, Czech and Slovenian teams the best Hungarian cycling teams competed as FTC-Merida, Postás SE, Atlantis Casino and Contact SE.

The distance was 49.5 km, following the streets of the downtown: as the maps shows the Hősök útja - Kossuth u. - Bajcsy-Zsilinszky u. - Budai Nagy Antal u. route was cycled by the riders. Basically this meant 15 laps with 3.5 km per lap.
After last year’s cloudy weather this year we had the hottest day of this Summer. The temperature reached almost 40 degree Celsius and the unbearable heat forced many riders to leave the racecourse. Notwithstanding the best ones could fulfill the distance in less than 70 minutes – this is a very good result regarding the conditions. The best rider was the Slovenian Erik Poljanec almost overlapping the rest of the bunch.
Between the Hungarian riders a summer holiday was raffled. After closing the Gyomaendrőd Grand Prix the real race will start with the originally second stage Miskolc-Kosice-Széphalom.

Final results:
1. Eric Poljanec (Slovenia, Radelska) 15 points
2. Konrad Czajkowski (Poland, Tc Chroby) 15 points
3. Zun Blaz ( (Slovenia, Radelska) 14 points
4. Kiss Gergely ( Kontakt SE Pécs Mix, Hungary) 8 points
